Day One: Pick up from accommodation from 7.00am. Head west over the Great Dividing Range via the Palmer River, site of one of Australia's greatest goldrushes, to "Quinkan Country" near Laura, an outback landscape of termite mounds and cattle stations. Here we climb the sandstone escarpment at Split Rock to view ancient Aboriginal rock art, dated in excess of 13,000 years old, depicting traditional activities and culture. After lunch we travel on to our accommodation in historic "Cook's Town", as it was originally named. Accommodation is at the River of Gold Motel or similar. Dinner is included in today's itinerary. |

Day Two: This morning, walk where Captain Cook once walked, touch the sand where "Endeavour" was beached, photograph Grassy Hill's spectacular scenery and visit the James Cook Museum where you can ponder Cooktown's pioneer history. Heading south, we visit eerie Black Mountain and the Lion's Den, a quaint outback pub, before crossing the Bloomfield River. Now the controversial Bloomfield Track (weather permitting) takes us to the World Heritage rainforest of Cape Tribulation and Daintree National Park. We'll walk in the rainforest to see the wondrous and unique plants of this primeval jungle, the oldest rainforest on Earth. Your guide will check you into Ferntree Rainforest Resort or similar, and explain nearby self-guided optional activities that are available to you this afternoon. The remainder of the afternoon and evening is yours to relax and enjoy this special region. Breakfast and lunch is included today. Day Three: After a tropical breakfast there is time to explore the rainforest or just sit by the pool with a good book. Your guide will pick you up at 11.00am to take you to an exclusive site where you will walk the "Stairway to Paradise" to the "Riverhouse" where a delicious tropical lunch is served. Enjoy reef fish, steak and grilled chicken with a variety of salads, tropical fruits and damper. Perhaps you'd also like a glass of wine or punch After lunch board your river boat to
cruise on secluded jungle creeks. An excellent chance to see
