Travel with Sunrover Expeditions to Moreton Island and discover an island of breathtaking wilderness where man has had little influence.

98% of Moreton Island is National Park, this means laws have been put in place to conserve not only the native Australian animals and plants and the natural landscape but also the archaeological and historical sites.

4WD vehicle is the only access on the roadless island. Sunrover Expeditions will transport you in comfort on a true 4WD experience to Moreton's long deserted beaches, crystal clear surf, freshwater lagoons, rainforests and one of the world's highest stable sand dunes (280 meters) Mt. Tempest.

Moreton Islands ecology is complex and fragile. It supports a number of habitats - beach and dune communities, sedge and paperbark swamps, banksia heathlands, open woodlands and salt marshes which attract over 125 species of birds along with countless species of lizards and small marsupials.

Itinerary
Day One:
Depart Brisbane to Scarbough Boat Harbour. As you cruise across the rich waters of Moreton Bay, schools of fish, dolphins and a variety of seabirds can be seen and if we are lucky, pilot whales.

Embark at Bulwer on the West Coast and then experience 7km of 4 wheel driving over high oceanic sandhill tracks, arriving at the forests of Honey Eater Lake (Morning Tea). Be dazzled by the flowering Wallum Heath Country and the Eastern Beach - 38km of pristine white quartz sand and deserted beaches. Swim, snorkel or eco-walk before our fresh picnic lunch at exhilarating Blue Lagoon - Our Safari camp site.

The oldest Lighthouse in Queensland graces the top of Cape Moreton. View the Museum, Dolphin, Stingray, Turtle and Sharks below and from June, the spectacle of the Humpback Whale migration.

At Honeymoon Bay - we can surf or relax with Afternoon Tea supplemented by native fruits. Before our return to the accommodation for the night, we explore Bulwer and the shipwrecks.

Day Two: Walk, fish or swim on the Eastern Beach, a healthy relaxed breakfast and depart for a 30km drive south along the beach. North Stradbroke Island can be seen before arriving at the Big and Little Sandhills - the largest sandblows on the island. Toboggan down the slopes at 65km per hour, or view and capture the splendour of this oceanic formation on camera. A hikers paradise with the west coast mangroves - world renowned migratory seabirds habitat and mud flat ecosystem to explore.

Visit Rous Battery World War 11 bunkers and gaze upon Aboriginal Midden sites in the 30m high coloured sandcliffs.

Lunch with time to relax before heading North to the enchanting freshwater ponds of Spitfire Creek and further to explore rugged Harpers Rock. Back at camp a fresh snack and cool drink before an enticing meal around the camp fire.

Mount Tempest - the highest Oceanic Sandhill awaits those keen to explore the Wallum Heath and the panoramic views.
