Emmylou Paddlesteamer

To listen to the currawongs and kookaburras burst into song, or to hear a flock of galahs playing in the distance composes a feeling of natural order. To view a sunset through red gums or the wings of a fleeting ibis, or to watch the moon rise to accompany the stars on a clear night creates a tranquil sense of excitement.
To smell the mist that rolls upstream on crisp mornings or the moist river banks after a fall of rain, fills the mind with fresh content.
To be aware of all these natural lifecycles, yet not disturb them, is the exceptional element of a stream-driven riverboat. You become part of the river, and life embraces you!

The Murray River System which includes the Darling and Murrumbidgee rivers and their tributaries is one of the longest river systems in the world. Although weirs have cut down the navigability of the system, the Murray alone still claims 1800-odd kilometers of meandering waters.

The scattered remnants of an historic past are being slowly reunited. The romantic days of paddlesteamers are with us again: especially on the P.S. Emmylou.

The P.S. Emmylou is a Murray River paddlesteamer, driven by a completely restored 1906 steam engine, and built to the highest world classification standards. She was built locally during 1980-82 in the style of the 19th century paddleboats, and is perfectly at home at the Port of Echuca, residing with the very few remaining paddlesteamers of the past. She is 30 meters long and 10 meters wide, steel hulled and timber decked. The Emmylou is in fact the only wood-fired paddlesteamer in the world offering regular overnight cruising.
This paddlesteamer offers modern convenience and some old-world charm. It's the senses that engage you the moment you go aboard: you can smell the warm oil of the engine, feel the heat as the engineer stokes the boiler with redgum logs, climb up to the wheelhouse to chat to the skipper, or just sit and gaze at the changing reflections in the water and let the lilting rhythm and swish of the paddlewheels, the nostalgic hooting of the whistle, and the distant croaking of frogs conjure up the leisurely pace of bygone days.

A World Class Restaurant.
Elegance and style are the order of the day when it comes to catering onboard the Paddle Steamer Emmylou. Three carefully prepared meals a day whilst on board, and each of these a potpourri of taste, texture and colour. Top local wines, plus a range of alternatives from the fully stocked licensed bar.

The " Emmy" prides herself that her a la carte menu and her wine list compares with the best of capital city restaurants.

All this served to your table on the outer deck, while you enjoy a glowing rose and gold sunset, listen to the river birds' evening chorus, the linger over desert and coffee to watch the stars appear.

Accommodation.
Eighteen overnight passengers are comfortably accommodated in two berth cabins, featuring traditional riverboat style bunks with the exception of one double bed cabin. We provide all linen and towels and there are showers and toilets on both decks.

Everything in tact for your comfort and convenience for either a restful holiday or a productive conference or seminar, weddings and group charters.

The Emmylou provides sun decks, a dining and bar area, a galley and a front lounge.
