INDIAN-PACIFIC Sydney-Adelaide-Perth Journey duration:
Three days and three nights (65
hours) one way. From Sydney, the train crosses the Blue Mountains to Lithgow, then passes through the rural centres of Bathurst, Orange and Parkes. The next stop is Broken Hill, a mining town near the South Australian border. Dipping south-west, the Indian-Pacific travels on to Adelaide, capital of South Australia. From Adelaide, the route lies northerly through wheat country to Port Augusta on the Spencer Gulf. Here the journey swings westward into the unique and fascinating Nullarbor Plain and the famous "Long Straight", 478.4 km of unbending track between Ooldea and Nurina. The next stop is Cook, then it's across the border into Western Australia to the goldfields town of Kalgoorlie. The final stretch takes in the wheatbelt and the Darling Ranges, and finally Perth, on the Swan River. Optional off-train excursions in Broken Hill, Adelaide, Cook, Kalgoolie and Perth are now available and can be purchased on the train. Accommodation Aboard:
